Miller MIG Guns & Torches
I originally got the spool gun as the cheapest practical entry I saw into AL welding, I read the little MIG boxes had a rep for birds nesting the soft AL wire trying to push it through a long tube. While I could get decent results, I found maintaining the charge on the batteries a PITA, as well as dealing with a voltage that dropped during your welding session. I really haven’t used stick much, at least not on delicate work. I find the flux makes it much harder to see what you’re doing than the gas shielded.
Millermatic welder. Welds aluminum if you buy the spool gun. Fair condition. I have one tank that comes with it. Let me know.
How many amps , Now I have seen several posters on some of the welding message boards that had a few snide remarks about these little volt mig welders. Now I know these little welders have their limitations but at the same time have some things to offer such as their light weight and portability, as well as their ability to use a volt power source that is almost always available where one of these little welders may be needed for a quick and dirty repair job.
This makes them a serious consideration for a maintenance person, as well as the hobby type guy. What I want to know from you that have a lot of experience with these mig welders is where the little jokes stop due to some serious amperage. I want to know how many amps you need in a mig welder before it can compete with a good hot stick welder running reverse polarity with enough cranked up to cause some serious spatter with just a hint the heat is so hot it is about ready to cause some undercut.
Tell me how much amperage it will take to do the same job as the stick welder, because what ever that is I will get out my credit card if that is what it is going to take. So what is it, – , , , ?? Oh yea, Christmas is right around the corner.
It may also fit other welders as well. I bought it to weld up an aluminum bed frame and no longer need it. It only has had 1 spool of wire run through it, and looks new. Make me an offer if interested.
Nov 19, · My ‘Spoolmatic’ 15A spool gun was originally an XRA push-pull gun, which I converted to spool gun duty by replacing the wire conduit with the spool cannister assembly. I use the Python push-pull torch with my P, but I could hook up the XRA to it, if I converted it from separate power/gas/wire connectors to the later model power pin.
Do wire feed troubles with your MIG welder ever leave you frustrated? Burn back, wire slipping, birdsnests… These are just a couple common problems customers call us about. The wire feed system is vital to successfully getting your MIG welder to perform. This will cause feeding problems. The second place to look for wire feed problems is the wire drive.
There are two main adjustments at the wire drive; the drive roll groove and the drive roll tension. Be sure to use a knurled roll for flux core welding and a V-groove roll for steel. The other component of the wire drive is the drive roll tension. This is adjusted with the numbered tension knob seen in the picture. More tension is not always the best. Cranking down the tension all the way deforms the wire, causes shaving that plugs your gun liner, and allows the drive to birdsnest.
Not enough tension will cause wire to slip in the drive rolls and result in inconsistent wire feed speed. Under the hood, it will look like the arc is pulsing. Here is a video that goes through the proper way to set your drive tension.

Dec 23, · purchase an aftermarket spool gun and adapt it to hook to my wire feeder. On my mig gun there are two wires in addition to the gun itself. the two small wires are 24 volt AC. These two wires trigger the wire to feed and the gas solenoid to open.
What are you doing? I’m here in the studio finishing up on my public art sculpture The Seed. I’m going to weld these aluminum brackets into my aluminum base so I can bolt the kernel down where it belongs. And for that I’ve got to use my spool gun. Ever see a spool gun? If you’ve never seen a spool gun before, this one is hooked up to my Miller and it’s got a one-pound spool of aluminum inside this drum.

You can weld Steel, Stainless Steel, and Aluminum. Our projects consisted of mostly steel and aluminum, so that’s what ours is set up for. Before I start, let’s address the most important thing, safety. First, if you are considering welding and have never done any, I would advise you to go to your local community college or trade school and sign up for some basic welding classes.
These are invaluable and can save you quite a bit of time and headache. Not to mention, it will make your experience more enjoyable and much safer. Next on the safety agenda is safety equipment. You will also need a good pair of thick leather gloves and, at least, a welding sleeve.

I have a customer that wants his race car headers “helibrazed” on the outside of the flange the way Hooker Headers does it to their upper end race car headers. I already asked my 2 local welding shops with no answer available. Can you please help me find out if this product is available in Canada, and why is it so much better than straight tig welding with steel rod. I know you’ll know the answer Thanks for being there That could mean any rod that melts lower than the base metal.
Because push-only guns like D/F Pistol Gun can hook up to any manufacturer’s wire feeder and power source, large lb spools of wire can be used reducing expenses, down time, and wear and tear on the torch by the changing of spools as in a spool gun.
Ideal for welding with. Hooks up to the Millermatic Auto-Set, and Wire speed adjustment located on the gun handle allows the user to conveniently change wire speed directly from the spool gun. Saves time by eliminating the need to walk back to the welding machine to change the wire feed settings. Easy access to drive assembly reduces service time by allowing easy access to drive rolls or performing routine maintenance without disassembly of gun.
Built-in gas valve eliminates the need to purge long gas lines. Gas lines routed internally means that the gas line won’t get in the way of the work. Hinged wire spool cover makes it easy to access wire compartment. Pressure lever for easy loading and unloading of wire.
